Vienna

Emergency: 112; police 133; ambulance 144; fire 122. Record the street, house number, apartment or entrance and floor if needed. [S85]

Focus on events and transitions

Austrian travel advice highlights pickpocketing in city centres, care on public transport and international trains, and the need to follow local security instructions at events. Keep belongings controlled when boarding or collecting luggage; avoid becoming absorbed in tickets or messages. [S77]

For a conference, concert or private reception, check the actual organiser, entry requirements and return transport. Locate the exits on arrival. If an event is disrupted, follow staff and police instructions and reconnect at the agreed safe meeting point.

Private invitations and financial requests

A hotel suite, prestigious venue or familiar community introduction does not verify the person making an offer. Meet initially in a staffed setting, retain independent transport and tell the contact person when you expect to finish.

Do not turn a cultural or social invitation into a wallet demonstration. Claims of exclusive allocation, settlement deadlines or a need to “prove funds” require independent review, not an immediate signature. Use the EU checks in chapter 29 for the actual entity and service. [S79]

Rail connections and onward trips

  • Keep tickets, identification and ordinary payment access usable without opening reserve accounts. Maintain a second way for companions to contact one another.
  • Add any onward destination, border crossing and overnight address to the plan. Check travel documents for every family member and the operating status of the connection. [S78]
  • If a train is cancelled or arrival becomes late, choose a verified accommodation or transport alternative. Do not let a stranger's offer of help take the group to an unknown private address.

Hotels homes and winter outings

For a longer apartment stay, confirm key control, shared entry, fire exits and after-hours help. Verify maintenance or delivery appointments with the established contact before allowing entry. Keep family routines out of public photographs and group chats.

Plan clothing, mobility and transport for actual conditions. A mountain or winter-sports extension needs its own assessment of operator, equipment, weather, rescue arrangements and insurance. City accommodation does not make a distant activity part of the same safety plan.

If there is a threat or medical emergency: reach safety when possible and call the relevant emergency number. State the location and immediate problem before explaining the financial background. Keep the asset response with the trusted team; the person under threat should not be expected to protect reserves at the expense of life.
