Mainland China / BEFORE YOU GO

Shanghai

Pick the right airport and the right side of the river for your week.

Local incidents
01

Pudong Airport, Hongqiao Airport and Hongqiao station are distinct.

02

Choose your base from meeting addresses, not skyline photographs.

03

A polished office is not a checked counterparty.

Arriving & getting aroundPlan the whole journey.

Confirm PVG Pudong or SHA Hongqiao before booking pickup. Shanghai’s Airport Link Line connects the airports, but it does not remove the final journey to your hotel or a terminal change. If arriving by train, specify Hongqiao railway station rather than the airport. Save the Chinese property name and exact entrance.

Choosing where to stayChoose for the trip you are making.

Map the office, dinner and conference locations before choosing between Pudong and a base across the river. A memorable view may add repeated crossings to a short trip. For a serviced apartment, confirm staffed hours and access for cleaners, visitors and replacement keys. Do not put your room details into a business calendar invitation.

Meetings & transactionsDecide the boundaries before you meet.

Use a known public venue for the first conversation and verify the company through an independently found contact. Refuse an on-the-spot wallet demonstration, “test” transfer or cash handover. A professional-looking reception desk and a mutual introduction do not prove authority over funds. Discuss commercial terms without opening the account that holds your reserves.

Family & longer staysMake the arrangements work for everyone.

Prepare ordinary spending methods and a second adult who can navigate and pay without your phone. If family members take a separate day trip, share the confirmed return station and ticket details privately. Do not make their transport dependent on the same new contact handling your business meetings or offering to change money.
